About Us
The Canberra Hot Rod Association (Inc) was formed way back in 1983 to bring together all club and individual Hot Rodders in the ACT area. The main players in the formation of the original CHRA (or CSRA as it was known then) were Dennis Moreau (vale Dennis, one of Canberra's most prominent drag racers and enthusiastic Hot Rodder) and Alan Cooper (chairman of the TAC since the early seventies and a founding member of the Meteors, one of the longest surviving Hot Rod clubs in Australia and the current ACT State Director of the ASRF).
Meetings
General Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month, 7PM at the
Spanish Club, 5 Narupai Place, Narrabundah, ACT.
Visitors are always welcome.
Why Join the CHRA?
The Canberra Hot Rod Association is a long standing, respected organisation in the ACT and regions catering to enthusiasts of ASRF class vehicles. There are also several other clubs and associations with similar objects and goals, but the CHRA has much to offer. Applicants are encouraged to become a part of this significant group and contribute to its growth while developing new friendships and contacts.
Below are just some of the reasons why the CHRA is “Still Kroozin'’.”
-
The CHRA was formed way back in 1983 to bring together clubs and individuals in the ACT area with like interests. Since that time, we estimate to have raised over a $100,000 for a variety of charities.
-
The CHRA owns and runs one of the most iconic hot-rodding events on the Australian Hot Rodding calendar. The Canberra Rod and Kustom Krooze attracts visitors from across the country and is one of the most well-established events of its kind.
-
Members benefit from the collective efforts of forty years of CHRA fund raising which has subsidised members’ activities and gatherings throughout each year. The cost of such occasions far exceeds the membership fee.
-
The CHRA membership includes an assortment of experienced and dedicated enthusiasts. New members learn new skills, receive expert guidance in building and registering their cars and have access to a pool of like-minded people to help anytime, anywhere.
-
The CHRA have associations with businesses in the region that cater to our hobby and sponsor our CRAKK run. Many of them are members and fellow enthusiasts. Networking with business people from within our ranks gives members access to skills, goods and services that will lead to significant time and cost savings through a personalised experience.
-
As the CHRA grew and expanded its activities, engaged sponsors and raised money, it became necessary to legally incorporate to protect our assets and our members. Under the Incorporations Act, we have legal advantages and responsibilities, which include the following:
-
Members of the CHRA belong to a legal entity and are not personally liable for its debts.
-
The CHRA can enter into contracts in its own right, including tenancy or lease agreements.
-
The CHRA may own land and other property.
-
We can open and operate bank accounts in our own name, borrow money and accept gifts and bequests.
-
-
The CHRA is a charter club of the Australian Street Rod Federation. As such, the CHRA can apply for sanctions and be protected by ASRF Public Liability Insurance. The Technical Advisory Committee is also protected under the ASRF Insurance, and we regularly receive reports from our ASRF Delegate, TAC members and the State Director.
-
As concessional registration schemes become available, owners and drivers must belong to a special interest group that is recognised by the various administrations and bureaucracies. As an incorporated association that is a charter club of the ASRF and a member of the Council of ACT Motoring Clubs, the CHRA is well placed to fill this role.
-
The CHRA has several assets that are available to members at any time. Members can sign for the use of the BBQ Trailer and equipment, Marquees, sound equipment, Hi Vis Vests, Lap Top, first aid kit and more.
History
A lot of rods and customs have been built and driven in and around the ACT area. Visit our HISTORY page to see our collection of images in a slideshow album. This is by no means a complete list, and is being added to as more details become available. Contact the Webmaster if you would like to be included.
